Random Weirdness on 4th of July

First off, thanks to all the feedback on the Natural Blues...you know who you are, CH, BP, and WHF3.....Been working hard and not having a lot of time to update, but really, didn't you need some time to digest the artistry of Scott Walker?
Anyway, here are some random items of interest

The President's Last Bang
This Korean film follows the events of surrounding the assasination of the Korean President, Park Chung Lee by the Korean Intelligence Agency Director, Kim Jae-kyu.
There is considerable controversy in Korea about this film, due to its portrayal of the president. Fascinating film, in that it works as a political thriller, political commentary, revisionist history, and black comedy. The "Dr. Strangelove" of Korea.....

Strange 90's cultish humor.....The Church of SubGenius
I had a friend about 10 years ago that was well versed in the Church of SubGenius....I had almost forgotten about this odd cultural phenomenon, but then re-discovered it through looking for information on USA Network's Night Flight.
The odd footnote to the Church of SubGenius is that the woman who is the head of the "Church" lost custody of her child for participation in the "Church's" activities...
(Apparently there is a film of all this.....and the existence of it, and me being able to find some clips demonstrates either the futility or utility of the internet.....)
Very, very strange....but it did happen in Georgia....a state that I dislike due to being pulled over by a county sherrif simply for having an out-of-state plate...so really, this news comes as no suprise....and no, I wasn't driving a Trans Am....

Well regardless of the inadequacies of Georgia law enforcement, the Church of SubGenius warrants some attention due to its weird similarities to Conspiracy Type Theories, or just weird thinking in general.....Finishing up Foucalt's Pendulum last week, I happened upon a really weird theory that Ecco references in the book, the Hollow Earth Theory.
This theory states that the Earth, is...umm, hollow, and that inside live a race of giant beings who are enlightened, technologically advanced, etc. Strangely enough, many of the proponents of this theory shroud everything in such psuedo-science that it actually sounds like....it might ALL BE TRUE!
Of course, not all the adherents of this theory come across as legitimate.......
The entrance to the Hollow Earth is apparently at both Poles; I guess when the ice caps melt, we'll know for sure.....
Also, since they re-created Superman for the big screen this summer, how come the producers and writers and director didn't follow the story in the comics? This is the biggest problem with comic book movies, they feel they have to "update" the character, or change huge portions of the story to appeal to a wide audience. It really insults the integrity of the original stories...as you can see below....
At least that's what we think about this trend in super hero movies.....

And really, it is the Fourth of July, so can't we all just bury our differences for the day, and relax, and just admit we all LOVE AMERICA?
